The first International Musical Eisteddfod was held in Llangollen in 1947 and sixty years on it has become one of the world’s great music festivals.

For one week in July each year, the small Welsh town is descended upon by the world with between 2000 and 5000 competitors and as many as 50,000 visitors eager to witness the dazzling spectacle and experience the magic of Llangollen.

During the day, International musicians and dancers compete in over 20 high quality competitions. Each evening the best and most colourful competitors share the stage in renowned concerts given by professional artists, many of whom started their careers in Llangollen.

Kiltearn Fiddlers have also appeared at Llangollen on four occassions and in 2007 we were winners at the International Eisteddfod, winning the Celtic Massed Ensemble Music Competition, making us WORLD CELTIC MUSIC CHAMPIONS. In this video we are joined by Gael Force, a group of Gaelic singers.

When we returned to compete in Llangollen in 2009 one of the first things that we saw on our way into the town was this banner advertising the Eisteddfod.  The two fiddlers featured are previous members of the Kiltearn Fiddlers.

We competed again in Llangollen last year in the Celtic Competition.  We came 3rd in the Celtic Massed Ensemble Music Competition.

Throughout the week of the Eisteddfod many of the performers from all over the world are in their traditional costume and we were also able to meet the prince of wales.
